NOTE:
Under the Ride Level details, the "Type: Road Bike" refers to the ride will be on paved roads (rather then off road trails). Although a Road Bike is suggested for Road Bike Type rides it is not required. Hybrid and mountain bikes can be used on these rides as well provided you are comfortable with the pace outline in the Posted Ride. This ride calendar is for club rides, club meetings, club event posts and shop rides only.
For Other Events in our area and off Long Island check out the "Other Rides & Events calendar" and the "Forums"

The Parks Department has closed some secondary roads, which we plan on using. As of today this closure is for vehicles only. This is great news for cyclists.
Being the skeptic that I am I came up with a second route bypassing these roads. It is equally as nice and we will use it if needed. So please download both routes if you have GPS.
Please bring snacks and drinks with you. I have seen vending machines but few and far between. Better safe than sorry.
As of today we have the following Ride Leaders along with others available to lead if needed.
Tim Mayr B group
Jim Flanagan B/B+ group
John Shea B+ group
Hilly and scenic ride with 4,000-plus feet of climbs on 3 scenic loops in and out of Harriman State Park. You may ride 1, 2 or all three loops. The third loop is a reverse of the second loop. Please keep in mind these are longer hills then we see on Long Island.
Parking is free before 8 a.m. in the Old Silvermine Lake ski area.
It takes about 1.5 hours to get there from the Uncle Giuseppe parking lot on Rte. 110 near Northern State Parkway, where we can meet at 6 a.m. to drive up together (or you can drive up on your own). Be there by 7:30 a.m. Car-pooling maybe possible depending on riders.
There are water and bathroom stops, bring your own food.
Ride is rated B, B/B+, B+, not for average speed (it will be lower) but for the effort & bike handling skills needed on the climbs and steep descents. There will be no paceline riding, but we will climb and descend at our own pace, with waitups at top and bottom.
We will have several Ride Leaders and break up into different pace level groups.
If interested, please contact me no later then August 19th by email include your name, SBRA #, cell and emergency phone numbers.
