Update: Wind is from the East, so we are going to do the reverse route again. Giddy up!
Kreb Cycle in Eastport is now open and its awesome! Come check it out! We will start this Saturday ride at the shop at 8am. It is an A+ ride, which is a 52 mile loop down Dune road, with one brief stop in Southampton at Ye Olde Bake Shoppe (cash only), then back to Eastport via Red Creek, Pleasure drive, 51. Our average speed has been coming in between 21.5-22.5mph.
Let's try a new route, we will be leaving the Stop n Shop parking lot heading North to Shoreham with a breakfast stop at the Bagel lady in Shoreham. I have no idea if the bagels are good NY Bagels, or Supermarket type, but the scenery and route will be new. The ride will average around 15 mph, +/- depending upon weather conditions.
Talking about the weather, right now the prediction is rain for Saturday but as we know their predictions are not always right, so please check ride calendar before leaving the house for this ride. If it rains the ride will be cancelled.
Also, note please park towards where Ruby Tuesday was previously located, as I have come to understand this is a safer parking zone than out towards the empty bank parking area.
Off to Briermere's, with a brief stop at the Bison farm, hopefully the Bison will be in a field near the road. Briermere's has outdoor seating, and indoor bathrooms. You can buy an individual treat, or chip in and share a pie with the group. Coffee and tea are available. To join, contact Bill G. at 631-356-3036, text your full name and ride destination. Check the ride calendar the date of the ride for changes, which would be posted by 07:00am. High winds will slow the ride pace.
This will be a C+ ride, which will average 12.5 - 12.9, partly depending on the winds, the riders, etc. Since the exact route will be determined at the start, so there willnot be a cue sheet for this ride. We will ride part of Dune Road (direction determined by the winds that day) and then take our break in Westhampton at the Beach Bakery, where bathrooms and food are available.
NOTE #1: You must be a club member to go on club rides.
NOTE #2:I am limiting the number of riders, so you MUSTtext me with your Name, SBRA Member Number, and Emergency Contact phone number if you want to ride. I will return the text: YES, you have a spot…or…NO, Ride Filled...CELL #: 631-523-2129
Going to Manorville today. A rest/ food stop at McDonald’s or the bagel shop is on the schedule around mile 20. There are a few places along the route for a break-a-way for those who wish to do so. The ride could end up a mile or two longer depending on the route. Pulling is always appreciated for those who want, but not required.
The average pace for the ride will be between 15.2 to 15.4 mph +/- depending on the roads, wind direction, rider ability, tailwinds, downhills, break-a-ways and other conditions. All of these conditions could change the final average one way or the other. Naturally, the road speed will be higher (15 -17 mph.) to produce the average.
Any cancellation due to weather or any other circumstance will be posted no later than 0715 if necessary. If you have question about the ride just text me at 631.484.3490. Eventually my phone and I will meet in a reasonable amount of time...
We'll start out by hitting some rolling terrain. before we head out through the fields to Briermere. The return will take us to Middle Road and some roads we haven't ridden on for some time. Then it's Grumman Boulevard and eventually to a finish on South Street.
Our average speed should come in between 20 and 21mph, and our cruise should be 20 to 24mph--depending on the conditions. We’ll head out to Pleasure Drive, make a brief stop at Briermere Farms, and then head home via Routes 51 and 111. I hope to see you there.
Any cancelation will be posted by 6:30a on the day of the ride.
I'd like to ride but I know it's a late post... if you're interested in riding with me, please text me tonight. If I don't hear from anyone I'll cancel in the morning. It will be windy!!
