Global Fat Bike Day has taken place on the first Saturday of December annually since 2012 — this year it falls on December 4. It's a special day for fat bike enthusiasts who celebrate it the best way they know how — riding on their fat bikes!
members with skinny tires (mountain bikes) are invited to join the celebration.
pace will be steady and safe....faster riders are encouraged to ride ahead
We'll hit some rolling terrain riding up and down like a seesaw on this ride. The eventual destination is Area 51 and that pesky hill. But, the fun doesn't end there, as we'll do the long course to the end of the Alien Highway! Then it's to the Harts wind tunnel, just like the old days.
No stops on this ride, just a couple of wait-ups to get everyone back together. So, once you warmup, you'll stay warm.
Sorry about the late cancellation ... waiting for service ...

Let’s see how many of us still remember how to ride our bikes. It’s been over a week since Thanksgiving and many of us haven’t ridden, so it’s time to lose that extra turkey weight and burn some calories. We will be doing a B- pace and since I am also guilty of over endulging I would appreciate assistance in pulling. Assistance in pulling is very appreciated but is not required. But I did hear for every two miles you pull you can lose up to 2lbs.
Hope to see you Sunday morning, check ride calendar before 7:30am in case of cancellation.
Off to Quogue, with several miles on Dune Road, Restroom stops at miles 7 and 25. If we stop at the Quogue Preserve there is also a restroom there. The aliens have said that we'll have blue skies on Sunday, to make up for Saturday! Let's ride!
Mr. Blue Sky will be here today: https://youtu.be/LMY5xe36cfE But, we may have a little wind, so the route will take us along roads that have some shelter. So some more rolling terrain like Mill Road, but no Harts Road this time!
There will be a few regroups along the route, but no real stop. We want to warmup and stay warm - so bring enough bottles and fuel for the full ride.
NOTE: Ride venue HAS CHANGED due to rain & trail conditions.... Calverton dries very quickly and will not have much mud.

We have one last chance to go to Briermere Farms, before they close for the season...
It will be a nice rolling course, with a lot of shielding from the wind. The plan is to keep the group together and ride at a pace that will be at the lower end of the B+ range. A little holiday truce, like Snoppy and the Red Baron: https://youtu.be/sh-J4GSPgAM

John Shea is still out of town so I am your ride leader this week. It will be the usual Hill Ride, with plenty of wait-ups, and on the flats we stay together at B+/A- pace (Avg 18-19, cruise 20-23).
No riding in mud for me .... Sorry for the late cancellation ....
Note: We'll stick with Glacier Ridge ONLY ... check back in the morning ...
Note: Overton allows bow hunting until the end of January … I
have not seen any hunters parking in their designated spots this year; we will
be in only ¼ of the Overton trail and I ride with bright clothing and a ringing
bell.
Check back as the forecast precip may cause a change in venue... and read the Details as I can't indicate a 2nd change for a venue change in the Status field.
Not sure of the mileage. We'll start by riding directly out to Dark Side of the Moon & Extension then cross through the sandpit and Rt 112 to Overton. In Overton we'll do the backend of Got 6 Minutes, go thru the Rock Garden (which some may bypass) , BD 3 & 4 (not sure about More On 4 ;-) and then up Overton Road to Sheep Pasture and back out on the front end of Got 6 Minutes. We'll finish GR with Eclipse and White Ghost. If that ain't enough then some may do CR 83 South and North.
I am a slow rider ... we'll work out wait ups for the those who want to ride faster.

The exact route will be determined at the start, so there will not be a cue sheet for this ride. As always, we will take a break somewhere and there will be a bathroom availoable.
We may go for a slice of pizza after the ride (at personal expense)!

Off to Smithpoint Park, and possibly Mother's Beach or Osprey Pointe (Osprey Pointe would add 2 miles). Bring your own drinks and snacks, and we do pass a 7-11 and can stop if you want to make a purchase. Let's put this year behind us with a paceline ride out to Riverhead, and (Ahem!) send it down the Tubes. We'll talk to you later 2021: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E-fNfydW8jE
The route will be lightly rolling and we should be out of the wind for most of the route. We'll take a break at around 19 miles and grab a coffee or a bagel in Riverhead. Then it's back via Route 25 and Forge / River Road. We'll keep a controlled pace so that no one gets dropped! Also, we can add a few miles depending on the winds and the group.
So come on out and let's end this year on a happy note!
Note: Overton allows bow hunting until the end of January … I have not seen any hunters parking in their designated spots this year & I ride with a free swing ringing bell; we will be in only ¼ of the Overton trail and I suggest everyone ride with bright clothing.
