Want to learn more? Look for "Special Ride Series" ride posts

SBRA has begun a “Special Ride Series” (listed as SRS under our Ride Classifications), which is a new ride class designed to better assist new people who wish to ride and learn with SBRA. Presently, there are three different special rides which are part of this exciting new program. (1) Paceline workshops; (2) More experienced rider, but new to SBRA; and (3) Beginner riders.

All of these Special Ride Series are authorized in advance by the Ride Director. The “Paceline” and the “Beginner” series will be a minimum of 3 weeks, while the “More experienced rider, but new to SBRA” are 1-Day Sessions.  The “Beginner rider” and the “More experienced rider but new to SBRA” can be for any ride level, while the “Paceline workshops” are for more advanced and faster riders. Each of the Special Ride Series are planned and posted on the website in advance and a phone number is included in the description text for people to sign up for the series. These rides emphasize rider safety, SBRA club rules, and other things important to group riding.

The “Paceline workshops” started a couple of weeks ago, and are being run by Ron Goodstadt. Please contact Ron at 631-689-2239, or via e-mail @ sheronrx@aol.com, if you have any questions about this and upcoming sessions.

Joanna Pascucci (Ride Director) and Jeff Meyer (VP of Administration) held the first session of The “More experienced rider, but new to SBRA” on Saturday, June 21st, with two brand new club members participating. Another session is scheduled for Sunday, June 29th (please check the Ride Calendar for time & location). This ride emphasizes rider safety, SBRA club rules, basic bike mechanics and a number of things which are very important when riding in a group, and is for everyone who has not been on a group ride. Please make sure you have a working bike, a helmet (required on all club rides), water or a sports drink that fits in a bike cage and will not fall out. After the discussion portion of the session, there is a ride of between 10 - 15 miles, at a C+ pace (average of 12-13), depending on the abilities of the group. If you have any questions, please contact Joanna at 631-656-0925.

A "Beginner SRS" will be offered in July (and probably again in the fall). As mentioned earlier, this series will consist of several sessions and rides, which will cover everything needed for beginners. Watch for this posting on the website and in the Ride Calendar.
