Tandem Pilots Needed for Disabled Veterans - November 17, 2010

A letter from the Northport, NY V.A. Center:

To all existing Tandem Riders, and those interested in Tandem Riding for a good cause. The V.A. is holding a Multi-disability Adaptive Sports Clinic at the Northport VA for veterans around the NY Metropolitan area on Wednesday, November 17, 2010.

At least 3 veterans in Northport have expressed an interest in tandem bicycling.
3 pilots with 3 tandem bikes are needed for this event.

We are trying to establish an area wide network of volunteer pilots, going forward, to rotate with blind and disabled veterans and allow them to enjoy what cycling is all about.  The hope is to have sufficient volunteers so that no one cyclist would need to volunteer more than once a month unless they chose to.

There are over a dozen volunteers in the Westchester / Hudson Valley area, from the Westchester Cycle Club, but our first event, and our first identified and interested veterans, are on Long Island.

We would really appreciate it if your club would help us get the word out that pilots with bikes are needed initially for the Northport event, and eventually, as an ongoing project.

If you can help please contact me directly by e-mail: seehuntny@hotmail.com
I will forward all responsed to Ed Richards, the VIST Coordinator (Visual Impairmant Services Team) at the Northport V.A.

Thank you in advance for your help,

    Bill
