This ride, with its later start time so we can have lunch, is weather dependent. If the weather heats up, make sure you check for changes. This ride will have scenic stops, and lunch and restroom stops, so plan on the ride taking extra time and plan your day accordingly. An early evening scenic ride in Setauket and the surrounding area. The ride classification takes into account the rolling hills route, there will be wait ups after climbs and opportunities to 'stretch your legs'. For those interested we often go to Green Cactus after the ride, where there is outdoor dining.
Ride is slower and shorter due to mechanical problems with my road bike. I will be riding my mountain bike, which is considerably heavier than the road bike. We will ride around the scenic roads of Oakdale, a unique community steeped in Vanderbilt History. Shortly after crossing a wooden footbridge, we'll be taking our break on the riverside steps of Idle Hour, the former William K. Vanderbilt Estate. Unfortunately, it is the now defunct Dowling College and falling into disrepair. Continuing with the theme of Vanderbilt history we will be heading into the mews, also once part of the Vanderbilt Estate. The mews is such a fascinating pocket of History & Architecture that we will be sure to ride each and every road. Please bring water, spare tube, and a snack if you wish, to enjoy riverside.

The start is the Port Jeff station end of the Greenway trail at the junction of 112/25A and Hallock (just past 7/11 if going north.

The Parks Department has closed some secondary roads, which we plan on using. As of today this closure is for vehicles only. This is great news for cyclists.
Being the skeptic that I am I came up with a second route bypassing these roads. It is equally as nice and we will use it if needed. So please download both routes if you have GPS.
Please bring snacks and drinks with you. I have seen vending machines but few and far between. Better safe than sorry.

Hilly and scenic ride with 4,000-plus feet of climbs on 3 scenic loops in and out of Harriman State Park. You may ride 1, 2 or all three loops. The third loop is a reverse of the second loop. Please keep in mind these are longer hills then we see on Long Island.
Parking is free before 8 a.m. in the Old Silvermine Lake ski area.
It takes about 1.5 hours to get there from the Uncle Giuseppe parking lot on Rte. 110 near Northern State Parkway, where we can meet at 6 a.m. to drive up together (or you can drive up on your own). Be there by 7:30 a.m. Car-pooling maybe possible depending on riders.
There are water and bathroom stops, bring your own food.
Ride is rated B, B/B+, B+, not for average speed (it will be lower) but for the effort & bike handling skills needed on the climbs and steep descents. There will be no paceline riding, but we will climb and descend at our own pace, with waitups at top and bottom.
We will have several Ride Leaders and break up into different pace level groups.

The ride start is in the car park opposite the fire department in Yaphank. This ride explores some of the picturesque back roads in Center Moriches before visiting Netties bakery (mile 18), where there are bathrooms and chickens!
We'll be starting from Eastport KK to Dune Road, taking that end to end, eventually taking a break at the WHB bakery. The mileage will wind up being between 35-40 miles, give or take, with a low to mid B- pace. The pace will be adjusted to the heat. The ride will be following the SBRA COVID-19 Guidelines. I would like to limit the group to four or five riders. PLEASE text me with your rider info. I will try to minimize calling out road hazards and be pointing to them instead … also with such a small group I will ask the warning of “car back” be only shouted out by the last rider and not repeated up the line.
You must have a mask on your person to do this ride ... I've been able to wear the multi-layer mask at ready as lowered around my neck while riding and would suggest you do the same.
The McDonald's at Wading River Road @16 & 20 miles is open and has one bathroom available. We'll be stopping for a scheduled break at the 20 mile point of the ride.

An early evening scenic ride in Setauket and the surrounding area. The ride classification takes into account the rolling hills route, there will be wait ups after climbs and opportunities to 'stretch your legs'. For those interested we often go to Green Cactus after the ride, where there is outdoor dining.
The BIKE Part: Join me for this C+ ride, which will average 12 - 12.8. No one gets dropped and we will be observing spacing rules, etc. The route from Sayville will be determined by the winds, etc., and we will take a break and bathrooms will be available.
The BITE Part: After the ride, we will go to Kingston's Clam Bar (right around the corner) for lunch (if you desire, and at personal expense). Their menu features clams, oysters, assorted seafood, burgers, salads, etc., so there is something for everyone! Kingston's offers seating outside & inside.
Green's County Park is in West Sayville on Clyde Street (hence the name of this ride). Click on the location above for simple directions. When you arrive, park in the south end of the parking lot, as Kingston's is right down the block from there.

Leaving from Krebs, first stop at Wertheim for bathrooms. We will stop or Smithpoint for refreshments before exploring some very scenic parts of Mastic, before returning to Bellport.
This will be a high B- to Smithpoint. The scenic parts will be slower so we can enjoy the scenery, then returning to a high B- for the return journey.

We will ride around the scenic roads of Oakdale, a unique community steeped in Vanderbilt History.Shortly after crossing a wooden footbridge, we'll be taking our break on the riverside steps of Idle Hour, the former William K. Vanderbilt Estate. Unfortunately, it is the now defunct Dowling College and falling into disrepair. Continuing with the theme of Vanderbilt history we will be heading into the mews, also once part of the Vanderbilt Estate. The mews is such a fascinating pocket of History & Architecture that we will be sure to ride each and every road. Please bring water, spare tube, and a snack if you wish, to enjoy riverside.

Come out and join me for this ride from Bellport to the Smith Point Marina. We will make a bathroom stop at Weirtheim, then a quick stop at 7-11 for any snacks or beverages, then on to the Marina for our break.
This is a C+ ride which will average 12.2 - 12.8 (depending on the wind and the riders), we will be observing spacing rules, etc., and there will be cue sheets.

We will meander around some quiet back roads in East Islip, before heading west to Islip where we will stop at the beach for a snack and bathroom break. Then ride the Heckscher Park bike path where we will wind our way along the Great South Bay on our return leg to Timber Point Golf Course. I'm not sure whether food is available at the beach at this point. Please bring water, spare tube, and a snack if you wish.
