With the massive proliferation of GPS head units on club rides these days I suggest that placing the Ride With GPS map on the ride calender for each respective ride should be strongly encouraged. It's so easy to do it's a wonder why it's not done almost all the time (some rides change on a whim though, I understand).
Doing so allows other riders to have a map of the route, including hills. This increases the accuracy of planning for those less familiar with the routing that may be standard to those who have previously learned the route by experience. Additionally, if one arrives late it allows for the possibility to catch up to the group. Even during the ride this may work. I remember having a minor mechanical issue that took 5 minutes to repair. Not wanting to hold the group up I waved them on, only to catch up soon after. Being that I wasn't familiar with the ride, having the GPS map solved the issue.
It's easy enough to do so, why not do it all the time? And, for those who feel challanged in this regard, it's an easy learn.
