Hello Mechanics.

I'd like to replace my eight or ten-year old Shimano 105 triple crankset 172.5mm with a compatible one at 165mm. I don't want to spend $$$ on a new one--I want to ask around to see if someone has an "old" one sitting around that they aren't using--so I need to know what works with what.

Are all Shimano triple cranksets compatible with my bb/axle or do they have to be from a certain time frame, certain axle hole size, certain axle shape, etc.?

Are any other brand's cranksets compatible with my Shimano bb/axle?
